It started out as "Lemon Drops"...a nifty little line of ribbon earrings created on the A Train heading from my classes at FIT, to my apartment, in upper Manhattan. on u was founded in 1989 as a side line to my fashion stylist career in the Fashion District. I would hand-sew bracelets every day during my commute to, and from, work. At the time, we lived in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Greg and I would work until late at night at an old card table. It was the only thing in our dining room. It's all we needed. Initially, the on u line featured early watch piece broaches and hand-sewn bracelets and earrings made with antique, vintage and Bakelite buttons. Quaint boutiques and wonderful artsy shops throughout the United States carried the line. Barneys New York, Barneys Japan and Bloomingdales featured the line then, too. I find inspiration for my designs in everything I do...maybe because it's all I do... (sort of) I love taking a little bit of something and creating a ''look' from it. It's totally rewarding. We've been in Richmond, Virginia since 1993. 9/11 occurred.. Everything changed. We decided to pursue a dream... The line features hand-knotted, hand-crocheted glass, vintage and semi-precious beads. The signature items in the line take advantage of antique, vintage, even ancient, buttons, trinkets, claws, mati, amulets, coins, bits and pieces of the world, from throughout the world... Which I love to collect. (You see, I told you that there were other things that I love to do...) You'll feel it when you wear just one piece. Then, you'll want another. It just kind of happens. Each design is meticulously created with fascinating knots, colors, contrast, and dimension. Features that, knowingly, separate the on u line from the ordinary. Please, take advantage to shop at the few select high-end boutiques that carry the line. Or visit us at the more than 25 shows that we do between Pennsylvania and North Carolina each year.
